Spring Chickens Missing as Older
Generation BY TOM WALSKI LEHMAN, PA--The Wyoming Valley Striders Winters End Run usually features weather resembling winter more than spring. This years 29th running of the 4.5-mile race was the exception as springtime weather greeted the runners at the Penn State-Lehman campus for the start of the race on March 22. As usual in this race, older runners dominated with 46-year-old Paul Leonard cruising to a comfortable win over 36-year-old Steve Templin. On the womens side, 36-year-old Ellen Buskovitz cruised to a 35-second win over 37-year-old Jennifer Heck. Some of the best quality performances were achieved in the oldest age groups. Seventy-two-year-old Tony Cerminaro averaged right at seven-minute miles and 57-year-old Nancy Werthmuller averaged an impressive 7:18 per mile over the rolling course. In the most hotly contested age group, 50-54, Mike Rawls eked out a four-second win over rival Greg Bassham. 1. Paul Leonard
