Harrisburg Senators 5K a Hit By John Hargreaves HARRISBURG, PA--The Harrisburg Senators, a minor league affiliate of the Montreal Expos, held its 3rd annual 5K on June 26 at Commerce Bank Park on City Island. Approximately 230 runners celebrated a warm summer day by racing a flat, fast course along the Susquehanna River. Due to heavy rains the day before the race, the finish was moved to outside the ballpark increasing the distance to 3.2 miles. John Butler, a cross-country runner at LaSalle University in Philadelphia, hit the first mile in 4:48 and continued to run away from the field. The 22-year-old finished in 15:58, 57 seconds ahead of second place runner Ben Massam. Becky McClintock, who the previous week had finished second in the I.O. Silver 5K, led the womens field with a 19:01. Kelly Dworak, wearing a Syracuse Chargers track suit, was second in 19:59, capturing the Masters title. Both winners will be allowed to throw the ceremonial first pitch at a future Senators game. The Senators put on a quality event including a fun run that attracted 75 kids. All race entrants are given two tickets to a Senators game and a T-shirt. Age-group winners are given an additional four tickets to a game. A generous buffet of bagels and fruit was available after the race. MALE Overall 1. John Butler 15:58 14 and Under 1. Kevin Roseberry 22:31 15-19 1. Ben Massam 16:55 20-24 1.
