Cubs Pounce at Panther Invitational BY PATTI STIRK YORK, PA--The 4th annual Panther Invitational Cross-Country Meet was held Monday, September 17th, 2007 at Central York H.S. This rapidly growing event is sponsored by Wellspan Health and encourages middle school boys and girls to get out and run. All fees, expenses, and awards are generously covered by Wellspan with no expense to the students or their school districts. This year 138 girls were led through the two-mile course by Kelsey Ibarra of Central York in a time of 12:36, closely followed by Misty Parshall of Northeastern York in 12:47 and Lily Corsaro from York Surburban in 13:15. Bryan Procopio of Susquehannock showed the 138 boys the way home in a time of 11:48 followed by Central York's Drew Belrich in 11:58 and York Catholic's Anthony Nguyen in 12:03. In the boys' team competition Susquehannock took first place with an impressive 54 points by placing three boys in the top seven. Central York posted three boys in the top 13 to secure 2nd place in the team competition. A tightly clustered pack of five in the top 11 earned the York Suburban girls team rights to the 1st place trophy with a total of 38 points. With only one runner in the top 15, Red Lion girls finished 2nd team overall cementing the old addage, "every place counts."
