Lawn Party Run Changed to Honor Irwin F. Zablocky BY FREDERICK GLENWRIGHT MUNCY, PA--During the all-too-brief time with us, Irwin F. Zablocky ("Z" to those who knew him), as a husband, father, teacher, coach, and mentor, shaped the lives of literally thousands of people. On a muggy Saturday, June 16, 2000, 176 runners and walkers embarked on the first Irwin F. Zablocky Memorial Run to Benefit the Muncy Valley Hospital to honor his life, to acknowledge his impact, and to celebrate his memory Formerly known as the Lawn Party Run, the 3½-mile race was renamed to honor Irv Zablocky, who died while running on April 16 of this year. A long-time runner, teacher, cross-country and track-and-field coach, and the founder of the Oregon East Running Club, Z had worked for several years to organize and conduct the Lawn Party Run, part of an annual fund-raising gala for the Muncy Valley Hospital. To honor his memory, the race committee voted to change the name of the event. Participants traveled from as far away as Florida, the Carolinas, and Wisconsin to take part in the event. In total, at least six states were represented. Numerous relatives of Z completed the course, including his mother, brother, two sisters, wife Carol, and three daughters: Beth, Carrie, and Laurie. Carol was the official starter for the race. The Irwin F. Zablocky race will be held on the same weekend, next year. The first male and female winners of the Zablocky Run were Kip Hoffman of Watsontown, PA, who ran a time of 18:57, and Ann Sick of Millville, who finished in 22:38. Dave Michael and Lynn Laver of Williamsport were the overall walkers with times of 37:08 and 40:01, respectively. Charles Duchman, Sr. of Montgomery won the award for raising the most dollars in pledges. Contributions to the Irwin F. Zablocky Scholarship fund may be sent to Frederick M.
