Harvey's Lake 8.1-Mile Victory Run BY VINCE WOJNAR, CO-RACE DIRECTOR HARVEY'S LAKE, PA--Travis Jordan and Michelle Wolyniec were the top runners in the second annual Victory Run (8.1 miles) around Harvey's Lake, in northeastern Pennsylvania, on Saturday, June 24. Jordan, 30, of Trucksville, finished in 43:40 and Wolyniec, 21, of Plains, crossed the line in 50:12. A total of 494 runners completed the course, up from 480 last year. "I felt hot," said Jordan. "I went ahead at two miles and didn't look back. I had to keep up the pace and be aware of the heat." Jordan's nearest competition was runner-up Paul Leonard, 38, a monsignor in the Scranton Diocese, in 45:12, and Tim Thomas, 28, of Plains, in 45:41. Dickson City's Kevin Borrelli, 18, was fourth in 46:27, and Danville's Dan Kirk, 33, was fifth in 46:34.
The records set last year, which were not broken this year, are: men--41:21, Coulby Dunn, Greentown, PA, and women--49:13, Kristy Johnson, Shepherdstown, WV. Major sponsors of the race were the Sandy Beach Inn/Tiki Bar
and Joe's Grotto Pizza.
