Gather for Giralda Farms Run

MADISON, NJ--The twenty-fifth annual Giralda Farms Run was held November 8 at the beautiful Giralda Farms Corporate Park. This year’s event was highlighted in having the 10K race sanctioned by the USATF as a Masters event for both men and women. The race also hosted open and corporate team competitions and in the 5K, parent/child team competitions. USATF team scoring was based on the times of the team’s runners. Parent/child teams and non-USATF team results were age and gender adjusted.

The race started at noon with over 1350 runners completing either the 10K or 5K race. Earlier in the day, a fun run for approximately fifty younger runners took place over a ¾-mile course. Some parents who ran in the later races accompanied the younger children in the fun run as a warm up. Over 100 dedicated staffers showed up including volunteers from the Madison, NJ based Rose City Runners Club, the Madison H.S. Cross-Country team, and Madison Police auxiliaries.

The overall 10K male winner was Oleksander Holovnytsky, 34, of New York, NY in a time of 32:16. The overall female winner was Catherine Beck 24, of New Providence, NJ in 37:25.

Taking first place in the 5K were repeat winners John Phillips, 25, of Brooklyn, NY in a time of 15:09 and Kathleen Castles, 38, of New Providence, NJ in 17:27.

The organizers of the race, Rose City Runners Club of Madison, thank the organizations that supported the race through donations of products and people: Whole Foods of Madison, NJ and Johanna Farms, Flemington, NJ.

The Rose City Runners Club met in January to distribute surplus race funds. Last year, donations were made to scholarships for two Madison High School seniors, the Madison Community House, and Morris County Parks Commission.
