Gather for Giralda Farms Run

MADISON, NJ--The twenty-fourth annual Giralda Farms Run was held November 9 at the beautiful Giralda Farms Corporate Park. The 2008 event was highlighted by having the 10K race sanctioned by the USATF as a Masters event for both men and women and the 5K course being certified. The 10K race also hosted Open team competitions and in the 5K offered Open, Corporate, and Parent/Child team competitions. All team results were age and gender adjusted.

The race started at noon with over 1200 runners completing either the 10K or 5K race. Earlier in the day a fun run for approximately fifty younger runners took place over a ¾-mile course. Some parents who ran in the later races accompanied the younger children in the fun run as a warm up. Over 100 dedicated staffers showed up including volunteers from the Madison, NJ-based Rose City Runners Club, the Madison H.S. Cross-Country team, and the Madison Police auxiliaries.

The overall 10K male winner was Richard Kiplagat, 27, of New Milford, NJ in a time of 31:42. The overall female winner was Heidi Wolfsberger, 28, of Scranton, PA in 34:56.

The 5K was won by John Phillips, 24, of Brooklyn, NY in a time of 15:29 and Kathleen Castles, 37 of New Providence, NJ in 17:43.

The organizers of the race, the Madison-based Rose City Runners Club, met in January to distribute surplus race funds. In the past, contributions have been made to scholarships for two Madison High School seniors and to the Madison Community Center.
