Brennen, Heiney Top Dogs at Frank 5K BY JOHN HARGREAVES
HARRISBURG, PA--The 14th Annual Kessler Nittany Lion Frank 5K was held on a warm, windy April 8. The out-and-back course goes along the east shore of the Susquehanna River. One hundred and thirty-nine runners showed up to battle the ever-present winds which characterize this race. Michael Brennen and Mike Bowman took off at the start and ran side by side for the first two miles. At that point Bowman's pace began to slow and hard-charging Bill Maloney was able to catch and pass him just before the finish. Brennen's winning time of 16:44 was eight seconds ahead of Maloney and Bowman was six seconds behind Maloney. Bill Celline won the Masters award by more than a minute in 17:14. Carisa Heiney won the women's division in 20:12, a good time for a tough day. Michelle Steeley was the only other woman under 21 minutes, finishing in 20:58. Hot dogs and punch were served at the awards program and all participants were given a long sleeved T-shirt. Age-division winners, three deep in nine groups, were given plaques and an eight-pack of Kessler Franks. MALE Overall 1. Michael Brennen 16:44 FEMALE Overall 1. Carisa Heiney 20:12 |
