WILKES-BARRE, PA--Carlisle, PA’s Chris McCabe returned to the Wyoming Valley to crush the field in the Cherry Blossom 5 Mile Run held May 6 at Kirby Park, winning by three and a half minutes in 25:44 over defending champ Jeff Barchak in the fastest time in recent years. McCabe took the lead early and was never challenged. On the women’s side, Marina Martino gave Barchak a battle before settling for third overall and winning the women’s division in 29:43 by a seven minute margin.

Paul Leonard was the best of the age-group runners taking fourth overall and first in the 55-59 age group with a time of 31:03. Best of the younger runners was 14-yr-old Jonathan Renfer in fifth place.

A wet course and light drizzle didn’t have much impact on the runners although it did reduce the number of runners. Rain is a standard feature for this spring event.
