PINE BEACH, NJ--A record 1500 people participated in the 10th
Annual Pine Beach 5K & One Mile Riverside Run on Sunday,
June 22. Although the forecast called for stormy weather, that
didn't deter anyone from taking part in this annual event that
has grown every year, starting with 400 runners in 1999.
Teammates from the elite Warren Street Track Club in New York
City took the first two places in the men's division, and first
in the women's division. With only one second separating the
first two runners at the finish, it was a close race from the
start. Oleksander Holovnyts beat Edward Gapek with a time of
15.02. Three-time past winner Tim Mulligan of Whiting, NJ, was
third overall, and the first local runner to cross the line in
a time of 15:14.
Taking second in 2005, Victoria Ganushina of Brooklyn was
the first female with a time of 17:31, followed by Christina
Glockenmeier of Basking Ridge, NJ, 18:31, and Sarah Muholdcroft
of Piermont, NY, 18:42. Gabby Barrett of Freehold, NJ, was the
first local female placing fourth in a time of 18:42.
